How a disposable vape works

Four parts do the work: a lithium battery, a coil (usually a mesh strip), a wicking material saturated with e-liquid, and an airflow sensor. Drawing on the mouthpiece triggers the sensor, the battery passes current through the coil, the coil heats the wicked liquid past its boiling point, and the vapour condenses into an inhalable aerosol.

Nothing is burned. There is no combustion and no ash, which is the core technical difference from a cigarette — though 'no combustion' is not the same as 'no risk'.

What is in the e-liquid

Most e-liquid is a mixture of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings, and nicotine — typically in nicotine-salt form in disposables. PG carries flavour and produces the throat hit; VG is thicker and produces more visible vapour. Nicotine strength is printed either in mg/ml or as a percentage, where 5% equals roughly 50 mg/ml.

What puff-count numbers actually mean

A rating such as 10,000 or 25,000 puffs is a laboratory estimate produced with a standardised puff length and interval. Real-world life is often shorter, because a longer or harder draw pulls more liquid per puff. Treat puff counts as a rough capacity indicator for comparing devices, not a guarantee.

Disposable vs pod system

A pod system separates the battery from the liquid: you recharge the battery and replace or refill the pod. That produces less waste per millilitre of liquid and lower running cost over time, at the price of maintenance. A disposable needs no setup at all, which is why single-use devices dominate first-time use.

Environmental impact, waste and recycling

Every disposable contains a lithium-ion cell, copper wiring, plastic and liquid nicotine residue, and the sealed construction makes separation difficult. Discarded in household waste, lithium cells are a documented fire risk in collection trucks and sorting facilities, and nicotine residue is classed as hazardous.

Used devices belong at an e-waste collection point under India's E-Waste (Management) Rules, not in a household bin. Never puncture, crush or incinerate a device to remove the battery.

Battery and handling safety

Do not charge a rechargeable disposable unattended or overnight, do not use a charger that overshoots the device's rated input, keep devices out of direct sun and away from car dashboards, and keep both new and used devices away from children and pets — a used device still holds concentrated nicotine residue.
